Wee rascals.
Over the age of six months, healthy babies and toddlers can safely drink any natural bottled water that is low in minerals (without boiling), such as Highland Spring.
However this is much easier said than done, especially as toddlers grow. Unless it’s fizzy and glows in the dark, children can be reluctant to drink anything – and trying to get them to drink something ‘plain’ like water can be a real task. Sparkling water with a dash of lime or lemon juice can be more of an attractive option for a toddler and young child.
It’s important to remember that children like to copy their parents, so you should be leading by example – drink plenty of water around the home so your children get used to the idea. Don’t be afraid to get ‘creative’. Remember, if there’s one thing kids hate, it’s feeling like they’re missing out on something that’s for adults only.
Your child needs water for exactly the same reasons you do and, if anything, may need slightly more as they will be running, climbing and jumping all day long. But it doesn’t really matter whether you’re an adult or child – your water drinking should become a natural, everyday habit.
